GILROY
– A minor earthquake was felt at 6:47 a.m. this morning in
Gilroy.
The 3.0 temblor occurred about three miles southwest of Gilroy
at a depth of six miles on the Sargent Fault, according to the US
Geological Survey.

unusual,

said David Oppenheimer, seismologist with the USGS in Menlo
Park.
The quake was followed by a 2.2 aftershock seven minutes later
and a 1.7 aftershock at 8:07 a.m.

I doubt anybody would’ve felt those,

Oppenheimer said.
The initial earthquake was felt as far as approximately 25 miles
away.
Gilroy police and fire dispatchers reported no emergency
calls.

Council meetings rescheduled
GILROY – The Gilroy City Council has cancelled a 6 p.m. study session slated for tonight on the future of Old City Hall and also rescheduled a 7 p.m. meeting to review applications for the Downtown Specific Plan Task Force.
Both meetings were rescheduled to allow councilmembers to attend a meeting with state legislators on local impacts from the state budget crisis.
The downtown task force review is now slated for Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. The Old City Hall meeting will be rescheduled as well, but a formal date has not been decided.
