GILROY – Coyote Lake park rangers are offering two programs this weekend.

Join Ranger Crockett on a blast to the past. Sing a camp song, play good-ole’ outdoor games and listen to a spooky story while eating traditional campfire fare at the Coyote Lake Visitor Center on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 8 to 9 p.m.

Visit Coyote Lake on Sunday, Aug. 31, to discover how reptiles and amphibians play very important roles in the web of life. Participate in games and activities with a park ranger. Meet some live slitherers up close and personal. Meet at the Coyote Lake Visitor Center at 10 a.m. for the two-hour program.

VTA provides bus service to 49ers games

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is providing direct bus service to San Francisco 49ers home football games. The bus shuttle provides comfortable, reliable service directly to and from San Francisco 49ers home games. The 49ers Express operates for Saturday and Sunday games only. All VTA buses designated for the games will have “49ers Special” displayed in the headsign.

Passengers (including youth, seniors and persons with disabilities) can buy a standard round trip fare for $18, or a VTA 49ers Express Season Pass is available for $105 (available at VTA Downtown Customer Service Center or VTA River Oaks Administration only). Exact fare for the service is required upon boarding. Other VTA passes will not be honored for this service.

Buses are scheduled to arrive at the stadium at least 30 minutes before game time and will depart 20 minutes after the end of the game.

Pick up locations for the 2003 49ers Express are (for 1:05/1:15 p.m. games) Capital LRT Station, San Jose at 10:05 a.m.; HP, Inc. Stevens Creek/Finch, Cupertino at 10:40 a.m.; and VTA/River Oaks, San Jose at 10:50 a.m.

Have a say in farm issues

SANTA CLARA COUNTY – The USDA Farm Service Agency is accepting nominations for 2003 county committee elections. Nomination forms are due by Sept. 5. If you have an interest in providing guidance on federal farm program issues impacting local farmers and ranchers, then you are encouraged to submit a nomination. Voting just got easier

SAN JOSE – When Santa Clara County voters go to the polls on Nov. 4, the old punch card voting system will be replaced with secure new touch screen voting computers.
