offer a disaster preparedness workshop,

Get a GRIP (Gilroy Residents in Preparedness).

This free workshop is designed to prepare family, neighbors and
friends in the event of a catastrophic disaster, such as
earthquakes, flooding and terrorism. The workshop will be held on
Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Spring family fun

GILROY – The public is welcome to enjoy some old-fashioned fun for the whole family at Rebekah Children’s Services 39th annual Spring Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 25, 26 and 27. There will be carnival rides, mouth-watering food and dessert booths, games, craft vendors, entertainment, classic car/hot rod shows and more. Local mascots, including McGruff the crime fighting dog, Der Weinersnitzl dog and the Hometown Buffet bee will attend to entertain the crowd. All proceeds benefit services for vulnerable children and families. The festival will take place at Rebekah’s Children’s Services’ grounds in downtown Gilroy and South Valley Junior High. Celebrating Law Day

SAN JOSE – The County of Santa Clara Superior Court will observe the celebration of Law Day on Thursday, May 1, by the promotion of a poster contest in which students submit their interpretations of the meaning of this year’s Law Day theme, “celebrate your freedom.” The contest is open to students in Santa Clara County only. Submissions will be accepted by the Court no later than Thursday, April 24. The first and second place winners will be announced on May 1 in category 1 (kindergarten through fourth grade), category 2 (fifth grade through eight grade) and category 3 (ninth grade through 12th grade). All submitted posters will be displayed at Courthouses in Santa Clara County throughout May. Details: www.sccsuperiorcourt.org.

Guns of the old west

GILROY – There will be a meeting of the Masons on Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. The Masons of Gilroy are hosting an event to share the history and values of guns of the Old West and provide information on their origins and evolution. Anyone interested in history can come to the meeting at 8387 Wren Ave. and learn more about the old-time guns. There will be peace officers at the door to make sure there are no unlawful weapons or that someone has forgotten to unload one and all attending are urged to tag their guns carefully to be sure everyone goes home with the right stuff. Also, if you bring a gun, try to obtain as much information on it as possible to share with the group. Families are invited. Light refreshments will be served. Send off the Hendricksons

GILROY – Help the Krazy Koyote Bar and Grill send Russ and Nancy Hend-rickson off with a big bang on Saturday, May 10, at noon. The Hendricksons have been active in Gilroy’s theater community for years and are now taking their talents to Oregon. The buffet style meal will include teriyaki chicken, salad, rice, chile beans, garlic bread and a drink. Wine will be provided. Tickets are $15 per person. Reservations are required by May 5. Grad Nite rummage sale

GILROY – The Gilroy High School Grad Nite Rummage Sale will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school. To donate rummage for the sale, bring it to room G-3 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. on May 2. For more information call Kathleen Diaz at 848-6310.

VTA planning meeting

GILROY – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is holding a meeting to provide the public an opportunity to participate in the development of the Fiscal Year 2004 budget.
