A ‘perfect’ play

GILROY – Pintello Comedy Theater, 8531 Church St., will present “Nobody’s Perfect,” directed by Rod Pintello, on Fridays and Saturdays, now through Feb. 21, at 8 p.m.

This com-edy is about a single dad who lives with his son and mischievous father. When he wins a contest for his secretly written romance novels at a women-only publishing house, the editor wants to meet “her.”

Try out for soccer

GILROY – Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League is holding tryouts for competition teams on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14 and 15, alternating between Rod Kelley School in Gilroy and P.A. Walsh School in Morgan Hill. Players born between Aug. 1, 1986 and Aug. 1, 1995, are invited to attend and must wear shin guards and cleats. Tryouts are free. Feast on crab

GILROY – The Gilroy Knights of Columbus Council 2469 will host a “Crab Feed” on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the St. Mary Parish, 11 First St., in the Cullen Hall. Happy hour starts at 6 p.m., followed by the crab feed at 7 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Knights of Columbus scholarships and other charitable activities. Play ball with Chaos

GILROY – The Gilroy Chaos Traveling Team 10 and Under Clinics will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. and Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m., at Christmas Hill Park. This is a team for girls fast-pitch softball. Details: James Jiminez at 422-1600.

Chief of Corrections retires

SAN JOSE – Santa Clara County Chief of Corrections James Babcock will retire effective March 15. The county Board of Supervisors accepted his notice Tuesday.

Babcock held the position for two years. Previously, he had worked 32 years with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Babcock plans to spend time with his family.

Flood control meeting

MORGAN HILL – The public is invited to attend a meeting of the Uvas/Llagas Flood Control and Watershed Advisory Committee today, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Community Center, 17000 Monterey Road.

Once a quarter the group meets to review flood protection and stream stewardship projects and programs in South Santa Clara County. Committee members advise the Water District’s Board of Directors. Details: Natalie at 265-2607, ext. 2659.

Prepare for primary

MORGAN HILL – The South County Democratic Club’s next meeting will be Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m., at 15231 Perry Lane.

The Club will be taking endorsement votes on several candidates and issues on the March 2 primary ballot. The endorsement of a Democratic presidential candidate, as well as State Propositions 55 through 58, will be considered. Senate District 13 (Gilroy) featuring Manny Diaz and Elaine Alquist will also be considered.

Safety Seat Day

HOLLISTER – The California Highway Patrol and Safe Kids Coalition will conduct a Child Safety Seat Inspection on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Target store parking lot, 1790 Airline Highway. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand to check for proper installation and use of child safety seats. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 80 percent of child safety restraints are misused.
