Brunch for a battle

Life giving day
GILROY – The American Red Cross is hosting a community blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., today. To donate blood you must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Donors are required to provide identification before donating blood, such as a driver’s license, or a Red Cross blood donor card.

GILROY – Barnes and Noble will host author Sara Perry on Saturday, July 24 at 2 p.m. Wake up and smell the stinking rose – with more than 65 delicious ways to celebrate garlic.
Ms. Perry shares her favorite recipes from tangy beef tenderloin with port garlic sauce to heavenly garlic ice cream in her book ‘Everything Tastes Better with Garlic.’ Sara will also be appearing on the Today Show, and will be featured at the Garlic Festival.

GILROY – Are you between the ages of 20 and 35, and want a job that really makes a difference? Consider becoming a California Highway Patrol Officer. Right now, CHP is recruiting men and women for six-month training at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento.
Once accepted, cadets are employed by the department and earn about $3,000 per month during training.

GILROY – Residents can now call the ‘Information Express,’ a 24-hour telephone access system that connects callers to general city information. The system allows callers to access information on subjects from building and construction to utilities. A ‘fax on demand’ feature also allows residents to be faxed forms such as building permits and water and sewer rates. Brochures which explain the system and codes are available at the Gilroy City Hall, Library and Museum.

SAN JOSE – Miller Brewing Company presents ‘Miller Music in the Park’ on Thursdays, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, located at Market and San Carlos streets. On Thursday, July 22, BoDeans presents roots rock music. BoDeans features Sam Llanas and Kurt Neumann on vocals and guitars, and Bob Griffin on bass.
The band toured in the late ’80s with U2 and Robbie Robertson, among others, and became one of the top 100 best-sellers of recorded music in the U.S.
They released the album ‘Resolution’ on Zoë/Rounder Records this June.

GILROY – A safe place for women to support and encourage one another in struggles and triumphs of daily living. The purpose is to ‘carry each others burdens’ (Gal. 6:2).
