Gilroy – The Gilroy Police Department Neighborhood Resource Unit is looking for volunteer painters who want to make a difference in the community.
Members of the unit will be painting a mural at the Santa Teresa Bridge at Third Street called “School Safe Passage for Kids.”
Volunteers are invited to pick up a brush and help paint from 10am to 12pm, today.

Plant sale benefits future farmers
Gilroy – The Gilroy High School Future Farmers of America is staging a plant sale from 8am to 4pm today at the high school green house, located next to the football field.
A variety of plants, from annuals and perennials to vegetables and herbs, will be for sale.
Recycle your e-waste at Ascencion
Gilroy – Ascencion Solorsano Middle School and ASL Company, a recycling operation in San Jose, offer an electronic waste community service recycling event Friday, June 9, from noon to 4pm, and Saturday, June 10, from 9am to 4pm, at the Solorsano parking lot, 7121 Grenache Way.
E-waste accepted include televisions, computers (CPUs), monitors, keyboards, mice, VCRs, printers, fax machines, telephones, DVD players, VCR players, stereo components, radios, speakers, even microwave ovens.

SV Music Makers begin third year
Gilroy – South Valley Music Makers begins its third year of musical celebrations Saturday, June 17, from 1 to 4pm at the Gilroy United Methodist Church, 7600 Church St.
All interested performers and listeners are welcome to join the friendly group of musicians and music-lovers to share a few hours of good music and good friendship.
Players at all levels of musical advancement may perform in any style and on any instrument, including voice, and those who just want to come and enjoy the music are always welcome.

Gavilan baseball golf tourney
Gilroy – Gavilan College baseball supporters are hosting an annual golf tournament on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Gilroy Golf Course. The tournament, which features a shotgun start format, begins at noon. The day is topped off with a barbecue dinner. A baseball game pitting alumni against current players is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Rams baseball field.
The golf tournament is open to community members as well as alumni, players and boosters.
Former players especially are encouraged to register.
