Fatal accident at Church Street and New Avenue
SAN MARTIN
– A San Jose man was instantly killed Friday afternoon when he
ran a stop sign in his Toyota pickup and collided with a garbage
truck.
Antonio Trejo, 37, was pronounced dead on the scene at the
intersection of Church Street and New Avenue in San Martin. Trejo
had been traveling east on New Avenue when he ran the stop sign at
Church Street and was struck by a South Valley Disposal garbage
truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Thirty-three-year-old Robert Lucchetti of Morgan Hill was driving
the garbage truck; he suffered only minor injuries.
No alcohol or other stimulants are believed to be involved in
the accident, according to the CHP.

Haunted ranger station

GILROY – This workshop is for the small business owner who knows that bookkeeping is important for success, but is intimidated, confused, or unskilled in keeping financial records. Halloween at the Outlets

GILROY – The Premium Outlets in Gilroy will offer trick-or-treating on Thursday, Oct. 31 to give a chance for local kids to have a fun and safe Halloween. Free glow necklaces will be given to the first 1,500 kids, with free trick-or-treat bags and candy for all. Necklaces and bags will be distributed in front of Erik’s Deli Marketplace. Harvest Festival

GILROY – South Valley Church in Gilroy will have its Harvest Festival on Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attractions include a jumphouse, petting zoo, face painting, climbing wall, hay maze, a cake walk, horse rides, a costume contest, candy and games for kids. Sleepy Hollow

GILROY – South Valley Civic Theatre presents its teen show “Sleepy Hollow.” Performances will be held weekends from Oct. 31 to Nov. 16. at the Gilroy High School Theater. Junior tennis championships

GILROY – The Gilroy Autumn Junior Championships, co-sponsored by the U.S. Tennis Association and the Gilroy Tennis Club, will begin Nov. 2 here in Gilroy. The players, age 12 to 18, from all over the state have qualified to compete in this tournament by winning or placing in events throughout 2002. They will test their skill at various tennis courts throughout the city on Nov. 2, 3, 9 and 10. Matches will be at Las Animas Veterans Park, Gilroy High School and Gavilan Community College tennis courts. The games are open to the public at no charge and run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Profits received from tournament entry fees are returned to the City of Gilroy through Gilroy Tennis Club, Inc. grants for court construction and refurbishment. Poll Workers Needed

SANTA CLARA COUNTY – The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters needs over 700 poll workers for the Nov. 5 election. Poll workers are needed in Cupertino, Mountain View, Los Altos, Santa Clara, Stanford and Sunnyvale as well as the southern and eastern parts of San Jose. To be a poll worker, you must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter in Santa Clara and at least 18 years of age. Poll workers are paid a stipend of $85 to $115 for working Election Day.
