GILROY – Sign-ups are being taken for fall soccer for Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League. The cost before June 30 is $95 per first and second, $60 for third and more players. MORGAN HILL – Auditions for the adult cast of “Blithe Spirit” will be held at the South Valley Civic Theatre Warehouse located at 8565 Monterey Road, Gilroy (behind Kelly-Moore Paints) on Friday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. The play’s lead character has no peace in his new marriage as his jealously suspicious dead wife has come back to haunt him. Life begins to get difficult when he starts talking to this specter who is visible only to him and the audience. Auditioners should prepare a short monologue of one to two minutes. Relay honors survivors
GILROY – The Gilroy Relay For Life Committee and the American Cancer Society will be honoring cancer survivors at the sixth annual Relay For Life.
The relay is a 24-hour celebration that will be held from 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, to 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, at the Christmas Hill Ranch Site. The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday. An important part of the relay is the survivor ceremony and walk when family, neighbors, friends and the whole community celebrate survivors’ victories over cancer. All cancer survivors are encouraged to come and be honored and offer hope and encouragement to others. Survivors will circle the track in the honorary first lap. They can run it, skip it, walk it or hitch a ride! Survivors are also invited to attend the special Survivor’s Lunch following the opening ceremony. Details: Ingrid Dick, 688-0117.
VTA public meetings
SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is proposing to reduce bus and light rail services due to the continuing to decline economy. On Thursday, June 12, the VTA will hold public meetings in Gilroy and Morgan Hill to obtain public comments and discuss the proposed transit service reduction plan. The plan will be reviewed by the VTA Board of Directors on Aug. 7. If approved, the transit service reductions would go into effect on Oct. 13.
The general public is invited to attend these meetings. If you are unable to attend any of the public meetings, submit your comments in writing. Free SJ Giants tickets
GILROY – The Gilroy Garlic Festival will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. To help kick off the festivities, it has obtained the San Jose Giants Ballpark for a evening of old-fashioned baseball fun for the whole family on Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m.

Summer theater is groovy
GILROY – Room is still available for children to participate in STAR 2003. “Groovy” is a musical comedy tribute to the ’60s, which will be directed by Pepe Espinosa. This fun-filled summer program is presented by the Gavilan College Theatre Arts program for young people ages 8 to 15. Hunt for treasure with dad
GILROY – The Father’s Day Antiques and Collectibles 2003 Street Fair will take place on Sunday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monterey Street between Fourth and Sixth streets. Browse a great selection of furniture, toys, prints, linens, kitchen items, Hummels, garden items, glassware, pottery, china, jewelry and more. Admission is free.
