GILROY – The Father’s Day Antiques and Collectibles 2003 Street Fair will take place on Sunday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monterey Street between Fourth and Sixth streets. Browse a great selection of furniture, toys, prints, linens, kitchen items, Hummels, garden items, glassware, pottery, china, jewelry and more.
Admission is free. There will be plenty of parking, food and entertainment. On-site appraisers will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first item is appraised for free, additional items are charged a nominal fee. They are still looking for volunteers. Details: Dave Peoples at 842-6501.
Garlicky group of poets

Compost like a pro

New moms brunch
GILROY – The Gilroy Las Madres, an educational and social organization for the parents of infants, toddlers and preschool children, is hosting its annual New Members Brunch on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Goldsmith Seeds, 2280 Hecker Pass Highway.

Summer theater is groovy
GILROY – Room is still available for children to participate in STAR 2003. “Groovy” is amusical comedy tribute to the ’60s, which will be directed by Pepe Espinosa. This fun-filled summer program is presented by the Gavilan College Theatre Arts program for young people ages 8 to 15. Come and participate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Partial scholarships are still available for Session 2. Moonlight paddle

Dubble Bubble contest
GILROY – Every Wal-Mart store nationwide will host the third annual Dubble Bubble National Bubble Blowing Contest on Saturday, June 14. Kids ages 12 and under will compete to see who can blow the biggest diameter bubble gum bubble. Six finalists will be chosen to participate in the national finals. These six kids will compete for the Grand Prize of a $10,000 US savings bond and a $5,000 donation in the winner’s honor to the Children’s Miracle Network. Hike the redwoods

Give blood, save a life
GILROY – There will be a Gilroy Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, June 18, located at the First Baptist Church at 8455 Wren Ave. from noon to 6 p.m. The need for blood is not seasonal. The American Red Cross and other community blood centers all too often operate with only a one to three day supply of blood. Sign up for ‘college for kids’
GILROY – All students from fourth to seventh grade can register for Gavilan College’s “College for Kids” this summer. Students will enjoy mornings of active, hands-on learning activities in subjects they choose, plus afternoon sports and recreation to unwind. Students may choose a morning program of science, computers, Japanese, math, art, music or math, art and Spanish. Activities include swimming, gym, games, soccer and tennis. The fee includes a “College for Kids” T-shirt. The first session runs from June 16 through July 3 and the second session runs from July 7 through 25. Magic comes to town
MORGAN HILL – The city’s Recreation Department will present a Magic Bazaar this Friday, June 13, 8 to 10 p.m., for youngsters age 8 and up at the Community Playhouse, Monterey Road and East Fifth Street. “Majinga”– the magician; Magic Genii and Chiquy boom will entertain. A second evening of magic, this time for the younger set, will be presented Friday, Aug. 8. Doors open at 7:30 for first come-first served seating.
