GILROY – Members of the Gilroy Historical Society lead free monthly walking tours of various historic areas around town. June’s tour is of Historic Fifth Street. Those interested should meet at the Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St. (the corner of Fifth and Church streets) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.
Reservations are recommended but not required. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Details: 848-0470.
Skate show
GILROY – The Gilroy Youth Commission is sponsoring a skate board competition from noon to 8 p.m. at the skate park at Las Animas Park Saturday. Several bands will be featured, including Johnny Come Lately, Emenent, Habanero, Friction, Sputter Doll and Incomplete Thought. The talents of Ethan Krolick, Jesse Lamb, Bill’s Wheels Skate Team, Bane Skate Team and others will be exhibited.
The competition is open to everyone. Participants can obtain a registration form through Community Services at City Hall. Details: 846-0460.
Paddle in the moonlight
GILROY – Discover local history and wildlife with park staff on a late night paddle at Coyote Lake County Park today from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Meet at the reservoir launch ramp with your kayak/canoe, life jacket and glow stick. Reservations are required as space is limited. Details:

‘I take this man’
GILROY – Pintello Comedy Theater will present “I Take This Man” on Friday and Saturday nights through June 28. “I Take This Man” stars Kirsten Francis Carr as Giddy Hollis who finds an uncon-scious man (Jayson Stebbins) at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and takes him home – to marry. Her roommates (Whitney Pintello McClelland and Steve Beck) can’t seem to discourage Giddy’s romantic imagination. The neighborhood policeman (Gary Glasspool) is trying to help, but soon everyone is confused. The starry-eyed Giddy may be headed for trouble or triumph, but there are plenty of laughs along the way.

Symphony annual meeting
GILROY – The Board of Directors of the South Valley Symphony is inviting the public to attend its annual meeting on Saturday, June 7, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the home of Frank Locicero, 1617 El Dorado Drive. Support girls’ mutt scrub
GILROY – The Girls for a Change group from South Valley Middle school will hold a dog wash and dry on Sunday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Scrub-A-Mutt, 591 First St. They will be washing dogs of all sizes for $10 per dog to raise money to benefit the South County Animal Shelter and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center.

MORGAN HILL – Henry Coe State Park will host an evening program called “Mountain Lions, History and Habitat” on Saturday, June 7, at 8 p.m. The program will be led by Dan McCranie who will explore the world of the beautiful, powerful and controversial mountain lion. SAN MARTIN – The San Martin Animal Shelter and Town Cats are seeking families for homeless cats and kittens at their pet fair on Saturday, June 7, noon to 5 p.m. at Petco, corner of Monterey Street and Tennant Avenue, in Morgan Hill. Flag Day barbecue
MORGAN HILL – The Pedrizetti Winery will celebrate the return of U.S. troops on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, from 5 to 10 p.m.
Pedrizzetti Winery is located at 1645 San Pedro Ave., Morgan Hill. There will be a barbecue, live band and dancing. Blue-star moms, servicemen and women in uniform eat free.
