Be an active landlord

GILROY – The city of Gilroy is holding a landlord/property manager workshop Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. Workshop goals include:

• To alert rental housing landowners of their responsibility to provide and maintain safe, crime-free rentals.

• To provide information that will assist landowners and on-site property managers on how to effectively manage their properties.

• To educate landlords about the consequences of failing to address rental concerns.

• Opportunity for landlords to network with other Gilroy landowners and Gilroy agencies.

• Provide city resources.

• Enhance the quality of life in the Gilroy’s neighborhoods by improving a sense of community.

Speakers will address issues that contribute to the decline of property value and poor quality of life. Refreshments will be provided. The workshop is free. Details: 846-6372.

Gav day open house

GILROY – Gav Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. All high school seniors and their parents, people interested in returning to school or transferring to Gavilan College and people who need new job skills are invited to explore what Gavilan College has to offer. There will be information tables, workshops and campus tours. Representatives will be on hand to explain the registration process, discuss program, certificate and degree options, as well as provide detailed information on financial aid, assessment, transfer programs, counseling, athletics and more.

Workshops will include “Financial Aid – You CAN afford college,” “You’re not in high school anymore! (How to Succeed in College),” “The First Two Years of College – making the most of community college” and “What it’s REALLY like – a student panel with new and continuing students.” Details: 846-4993.

Celebrate Krazy Koyote style

GILROY – Help the Krazy Koyote Bar and Grill send Russ and Nancy Hend-rickson off with a big bang on Saturday, May 10, at noon. The Hendricksons have been active in Gilroy’s theater community for years and are now taking their talents to Oregon. The buffet style meal will include teriyaki chicken, salad, rice, chile beans, garlic bread and a drink. Wine will be provided. Tickets are $15 per person. Reservations are required by May 5. Crab Cioppino Feed

GILROY – The Gilroy High School Athletic Association is holding its 23rd Annual Crab Cioppino Feed and Dance on Saturday, May 10, at Christopher Ranch. Dinner is served from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and dancing to The Joe Sharino Band will be from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are on sale in the athletic office at Gilroy High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily or on the Web at www.gilroyhighschool.com. Tickets are $40. Family luau

MORGAN HILL – The Charter School of Morgan Hill is having a Family Fun Festival Luau on Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free to the public and activities include: rock wall, dunk tank, fun jump, authentic Hawaiian BBQ, hula dancers and entertainment, class-sponsored booths, activities and fun for the whole family. Garlicky poetry reading

Father/Daughter Dance

MORGAN HILL – Would you like to have a date with your special daughter? The Lana Wright Competition Dancers are hosting a father/daughter dance on Friday, May 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Burnett School in Morgan Hill. This is a fund raiser for the Competition Dancers Radio City Music Hall Rockette Experience this summer in New York City.

You may pre-purchase tickets for $25 per “couple” and $5 for each additional daughter. Purchase tickets at Lana’s Dance Studio, 16060 Caputo Drive Morgan Hill. Ticket prices will go up at the door. Details: Stacie Nowak at 655-0050.
