AAUW fall luncheon

GILROY – Prospective, current and at-large members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) are invited to the fall membership luncheon at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in San Juan Bautista on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11:45 a.m.

Guest speaker Rebecca Hall will present “Not Killing Me Softly: African American Women in Slave Revolts.” Hall is an AAUW Educational Foundation fellow and a Ph.D. candidate in history at University of California at Santa Cruz. She has worked extensively with homeless people, survivors of domestic violence and asylum seekers. She taught law students how to represent low-income people in housing law, as well as tenant’s rights workshops throughout the Bay Area. Her career change from law to history was motivated by her realization that the answers she sought were to be found, not in litigation, but in structured patterns of race, class and gender.

There will be a sandwich express buffet with salads, brownies, coffee or tea for $18, including tax and gratuity. RSVP to Connie Doty at

842-4790 or Gloria Mendivil at 848-6489.
