Sweet symphony

GILROY – The South Valley Symphony will hold its annual family concert on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m., in the Gavilan College theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. The program will feature Eileen Chen on the piano, who will perform the Allegro movement from Mozart’s piano concert number 23 in A. The orchestra will perform the Allegro movement from “Eine Kleine Nacht Musik” by Mozart and “Peter and the Wolf” by Serge Prokofiev. Peter and the Wolf will feature a narrator and a slide projection by Keith Whitney.

Also, many Suzuki violin students under their respective instructors and cellists will play selections by Bach, Martini and C. Webster.

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors age 55 and up and $7 for students 12 to 18. Details: 842-3934.

Are you game?

GILROY – The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold “No-Ball-Game-Day” on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St., from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bring your board game or deck of cards and your friends and prepare for fun. The festive event will include lunch, two gaming sessions, door prizes and snacks. All kinds of games from Bunko to Yahtzee will be played, just no ball games.

Proceeds will go to benefit a broad array of scholarships for girls. Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased at The Nimble Thimble, 55 W. Sixth St. or by calling Suzanne Barrett at

Valentine sweets

GILROY – Solis Winery, 3920 Hecker Pass Highway, will hold “Hearts, Wine and Chocolate” on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7 and 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Explore the world of fine wine and chocolate with your senses, including barrel tasting their 2002 Port.
