Gilroy – The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce presents the 13th Annual South Silicon Valley Trade Show and Mixer on Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 2 to 7pm at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St.
The mixer will feature south county restaurants and winery tastings from 5 to 7pm., and exhibitor booths are sold out. This year’s theme is Cruise to Success.

Chamber accepting nominations for awards
Gilroy – The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for its annual Citizen and Business Awards, to be held Feb. 6 at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club.

Get city information 24-hours a day
Gilroy – Residents can now call the “Information Express,” a 24-hour telephone access system that connects callers to general city information.
The system allows callers to access information on subjects from building and construction to utilities. A ‘fax on demand’ feature also allows residents to be faxed forms such as building permits and water and sewer rates. Brochures which explain the system and codes are available at the Gilroy City Hall, Library and Museum.

Red Cross needs blood drive hosts
Gilroy – The Red Cross needs additional sponsors to hold blood drives at their businesses, organizations and/or schools during the summer.
New locations mean new donors. Sites are especially needed in Cupertino, Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, Salinas, Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
Every month, the american Red Cross brings 30 percent of the blood it needs for Bay Area hospitals in from other states just to meet a minimum supply of two days worth of blood on the shelf. In case of disaster, the Red Cross would prefer to have a five- to seven-day blood supply available.
Sponsors need to be able to recruit a minimum of 40 donors from their friends, families, co-workers and business associates. They must have at least a single room with 1,000 empty and temperate square feet available for one day to hold the drive.

Entertainers needed to share talents
Gilroy – Live Oak Adult Day Services, 651 W. Sixth St., is in need of volunteers on a one-time or regular basis who can share their talents with the elderly at the center. Come and sing, play the piano, share vacation slides or a pet, tell stories or jokes, etc. All ages are welcome to share their time and talents.

Hospital volunteers are always welcome
Gilroy – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers.
Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening.
Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk. People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half-hour shifts at the hospital each month. They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting. Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses.

Ministry provides free clothing, other items
Gilroy – Heart to Heart ministries welcomes the tri-county community to share with the Bethany Community Church women’s department sharing closet.
This ministry provides new and used free clothing for men, women and children in addition to shoes, purses and stuffed animals. The sharing closet is open the last Saturday of every month from 10am to noon at 7425 Eigleberry St.

Join in on weekly runs with SV runners
Morgan Hill – The South Valley Running Club invites runners of all ability to join for weekly runs on the weekends, Wednesday mornings, and speed training at the track on Thursday nights. Runners of all abilities, interests, and goals are welcome. No one is too slow; if you want to run, you are a runner.
The club meets on the first Wednesday of every month, from 6:30 to 8:30pm, in the back room at Mt. Mikes, located at Tenant and Monterey.
