Join Rotary Club celebration
• Gilroy – Come join the celebration on Saturday, May 28, as Coto de Caza/Rancho Santa Margarita Rotarian Nathan Auerbach walks through Gilroy on his quest to bring awareness to Rotary’s mission to eradicate polio. This crippling disease can be cured and Nathan’s amazing walk from Tijuana to Vancouver, British Columbia is highlighting the need to keep up the hard work.
Meet at South Valley National Bank (First Street and Santa Teresa Boulevard) at 11:45am Saturday and walk with him up First Street to the Visitors Bureau at 7780 Monterey St., before he continues his journey north. Cheers and enthusiasm will help give him the energy he needs for this trek.

8th annual city Memorial Day Parade on tap
• Gilroy – WWII fighter-planes and a CALSTAR helicopter will fly over local veterans, Boy Scouts, police and fire personnel, the South County Thunderbird Club, and dozens of other area residents participating in the eighth annual Memorial Day Parade, Monday.
The day to honor those who who died in battle begins at 9am at Gavilan Hills Cemetery, off First Street, with a ceremony honoring those who died in battle.
The hour-and-a-half parade begins at 11am and stretches along Tenth Street between Monterey Street and Orchard Drive. Larry Connell and his father Dale, both Navy veterans, will serve as grand marshals of this year’s parade.
Following the event, organizers have scheduled a family day between 1pm and 4pm at Christmas Hill Park.
The event will include a rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon artists, and other activities. The popular ’60s-tunes cover-band the Corvairs will also play at the Christmas Hill gazebo.
