GILROY – Golfers eager for a spring scramble that supports a good local cause can sign up now for the annual St. Mary Golf Day slated for Eagle Ridge Golf Course on Friday, April 23.

Tee off is at 11 a.m. for the four-person team tournament that benefits St. Mary Parish and the St. Joseph’s Family Center. Included in the $200 entry fee: Golf, cart, shirt, lunch, cigars, tee prizes and a wonderful dinner in the clubhouse.

Dinner guests at $50 each are also welcome. Cocktails begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. The auction will feature sports memorabilia from former 49er greats like Jerry Rice and items signed by members of the San Jose Sharks.

Gilroy Chinese honored

GILROY – The Gilroy Historical Society will dedicate a historical marker at the site of the Gilroy Chinese Cemetery on the seventh green of the Gilroy Golf Course on Sunday, Apr. 4, at 2 p.m. Author of ”Chinese Gold, The Chinese in the Monterey Bay Region,” Sandy Lydon will join as guest speaker. A reception and book signing will follow at the Gilroy Elks Club, 2765 Hecker Pass Hwy.

Pies for sale

GILROY – To support their Mexico Mission Trip this summer, St. Mary’s Youth Group is selling pies from Gizdich Ranch.

Apple, ollalie and pumpkin are available for $12 until Tuesday, Apr. 6. Pies can be ordered by calling Linda Perry at 848-3977 or by picking up an order form the St. Mary Parish office. The pies will be delivered frozen and can be picked up from the Cullen Hall Gym, Thursday, Apr. 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

GHS under construction

GILROY – Gilroy High School is ready to launch phase II of modernization and construction projects. This summer, the high school will be closed as crews work to reopen in time for school on Aug. 30. A community information meeting to answer questions and concerns will be held in the GHS library on Tuesday, Apr. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

School birthday party

GILROY – Glen View School will celebrate its 50th birthday on Wednesday, Apr. 7. The community and past alumni are invited to join in the festivies. Registation starts at 5:15 p.m. and ceremonies start at 5:45 p.m. Cake and refreshments will be served. Classrooms will be open from 7 to 8 p.m.

Send singers around the world

GILROY – Gilroy High School Chamber Singers will hold “Auf Wiedersehen Concert” on Wednesday, Apr. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at South Valley National Bank. A $5 donation at the door goes toward their trip to Germany and the Czech Republic.

Hospice volunteers needed

GILROY/MORGAN HILL – The Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program at Santa Teresa Hospital, 50 East Main Ave., Morgan Hill, is in need of volunteers for the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area. Hospice volunteers are needed to do home visits to hospice patients and families and/or make bereavement phone calls on a monthly basis. Training is provided. Volunteers are welcome

GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening. Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk.

People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half-hour shifts at the hospital each month. They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting. Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses. Details:

Heart to Heart ministries

GILROY – Heart to Heart ministries welcomes the tri-county community to share with the Bethany Community Church women’s department sharing closet. This ministry provides new and used free clothing for men, women and children in addition to shoes, purses and stuffed animals.
