‘Easy Street’ prize drawing
Gilroy – The Grand Prize for Downtown Gilroy’s “Road to Easy Street” contest will be awarded Friday at Happy Dog Pizza Company, 55 Fifth St. The public is invited to join in the excitement at 6pm.
The Grand Prize winner will live on “Easy Street” with a prize package valued at more than $3,000, including 12 monthly house cleanings from Cleaning Services, an Apple iPod and $100 gift certificates donated by Downtown Merchants.

Military moms meet

Scholarship ball set for Friday
Gilroy – The Gilroy Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be holding it’s 18th Annual Ambassador’s Scholarship Ball from 6 to 10pm Friday. This year’s theme is “Education – the Key to Success,” and will be held at Gilroy Elk’s Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road. The cost is $65 per person.

Crop replacement
fires extended
Gilroy – The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has extended crop replacement, orchard pruning and attrition burns to May 31.
Crop replacement fires are conducted to establish an agricultural crop in a location that formerly contained another type of crop or natural growth while orchard pruning and attrition fires are to dispose of periodic prunings and attrition losses from fruit trees, nut trees, vineyards and cane fruits.

Community Advisory Committee
Gilroy – The CAC is a group of parents, teachers and administrators who work with children of special needs.
Thursday’s meeting will cover learning disabilities simulation where Parents Helping Parents will conduct a simulation on various different learning challenges.

Auction and fundraiser
Gilroy – The Santa Clara Country Mothers of Twins Club is holding an auction and raffle fundraiser Friday at Eagle Ridge Golf Club. Buffet dinner starts at 7pm. Cost is $20 per person. The proceeds from the auction will help the club earn the funds for upcoming club events, parties and meeting speakers. Stamp Out Hunger
Gilroy – Bay Area letter carriers will team with the public to “Stamp Out Hunger” on Saturday, May 13 in the nation’s largest one-day food drive. For the 14th year running, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ (www.nalc.org ) Food Drive means that thousands of local postal workers will collect nonperishable food donations as they traverse their mail delivery routes. Residents are encouraged to help by putting a bag of healthy, nonperishable food near their home or business mailbox Saturday.
