CHS and GHS spring concert: The Gilroy and Christopher High School choir programs present their spring concerts at 7:30 p.m. April 16 and 17 at Mission San Juan Bautista. $5 donation at the door.

FFA farm community open house

An FFA farm community open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gilroy High School farm laboratory, 9110 Kern Ave. Activities will include games, demonstrations, animals to view and interact with, and plants for sale.

Gilroy Rotary offers  $26K in scholarships

The Gilroy Rotary Club Scholarships and Awards Program will be offering up to $26,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors graduating in 2013 and entering their first year of college in the fall of 2013, along with Gavilan or Hartnell College graduates who are transferring to a four-year college in the Fall of 2013. Applications can be obtained by calling the Gilroy Rotary Scholarship Chair, Tim Day, at 831 623-4973, picking up a packet at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce office, 7471 Monterey St., Gilroy, or downloading the packet at GilroyRotary.org. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. today.

 

AARP safe driving class offered

As the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher course for motorists 50 and older, participants will familiarize themselves with safety and new laws. This course offers three year certificates to be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of this one-day program. There are no tests and class materials are provided. Recognized by the state of California and the DMV. You do not have to be an AARP member to participate. Farm Bureau scholarships

The Santa Clara County Farm Bureau is partnering with American AgCredit to offer $4,000 in college scholarships for the fall 2013. The scholarships are for local high school seniors who plan to major in agriculture and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. To be considered, applications must include a completed scholarship form, transcripts, a personal statement and two letters of recommendation. Applications must be submitted to the Farm Bureau office by Monday, April 15. Applications must be typed and forms are available electronically by contacting the Farm Bureau office at

Elks Lodge dinner

Basic gardening

Celebrate Earth Day

Growing citrus successfully

Celtic Society garden concert

The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay presents a garden concert of Irish music featuring Colleen Raney, Johnny B. Connolly and Casey Neill at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26 at a private home, 3260 Leavesley Road, Gilroy.
