A Morgan Hill police officer was attacked when he responded to a domestic dispute that spilled onto the road.
Police received a call about a road rage incident in which a man was chasing a vehicle on Monterey Road about 4:20 p.m. Saturday driven by a woman he was acquainted with, according to Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. Apparently the two had gotten into an argument near Monterey Road and Edmundson Drive. When the woman got into her car to drive away, the man, Jason Dixon, 25 of Morgan Hill, followed her. A witness told police the man was driving erratically, weaving into oncoming traffic.
A single officer responded and caught up with Dixon, who pulled over near Giancarlo’s restaurant at 16180 Monterey Road. When the officer exited his vehicle, Dixon charged him, Neumayer said.
“The officer had to fight with him and hold him on the ground until another officer came,” he said.
When another officer arrived, Dixon was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, violating probation, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. Neumayer said Dixon had more than five ounces of marijuana in his vehicle.
Only one officer was initially available to respond to the incident, Neumayer said, because police were responding to several other calls at the same time.
“This was one of those calls where you go blind, and you don’t know what’s going on,” and as soon as the officer gets there he is threatened, Neumayer said.
Neither the officer nor Dixon were injured.
