Dear Editor,

In keeping with typical union and Democrat dishonesty, Alex Kennett, president of the South County Democratic Club, drums up fear of a Republican scam even invoking the much hated by liberals names of Karl Rove and Tom De Lay when laying out his case against Proposition 77 – The Fair Districts Initiative.

Here are the facts. In the general election in 2004, of the 153 statewide offices up for grabs, not one changed parties. I blame that on both of the major parties for carving out airtight districts which literally guaranteed re-election of incumbents. Proposition 77 will establish a panel of retired judges representing both major parties that will follow strict guidelines set in the state constitution to redraw the badly misshapen and fractured district boundaries.

The Democrat-controlled legislature had their chance and they proved to the world that they had been bought and paid for by the unions and cannot be trusted.

It is too bad that Democrats and their union bedmates are so desperate to control everything in this state that they refuse to let the people pick their elected officials instead of the politicians picking their voters. Proposition 77 is even endorsed by the very liberal Los Angeles Times as well as Supervisor Don Gage, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and many more.
