Gowan, Wright have big days at the plate in 13-9 boys majors
victory
GILROY – Teammates Cory Gowan and Mitchell Wright combined for six hits and eight runs-batted-in to power Dr. Tong Orthodontics to Tuesday’s 13-9 victory over Mission Valley Vet Cardiology.

Gowan finished 3-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBIs, while Wright went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs for Dr. Tong’s boys majors team of Gilroy Little League.

Wright also got the win on the mound, striking out nine, walking five, and scattering 10 hits. Reliever Matt Elston came in to finish the game off, recording two strike-outs.

The Orthodontics infield was steady throughout, as Elston made several long throws from second base to catcher Cory Snyder – who stopped mid-inning scoring chances from the Phillies. Third baseman Nick McFarlan stopped rallies in the fourth and fifth innings.

Coach Mark May said: “Nice play all around. A great team effort.”
