Sobriety checkpoint

SOUTH COUNTY—The California Highway Patrol will be on the lookout for impaired drivers at a special checkpoint somewhere in southern Santa Clara County Saturday, according to a statement from the agency’s Hollister-Gilroy office.
Officers trained in the detection of alcohol and drug use will be on hand to screen any drivers they suspect of being impaired. Authorities will also be verifying the licenses of drivers at the checkpoint, the release states.
“The checkpoint will send a clear message to the community that the CHP will not tolerate impaired driving,” CHP Officer Christopher Miceli said, “and will promote awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”
Those who officers believe are under the influence of either alcohol or drugs will be arrested, authorities said.
