Simple question. I’m here at El Roble Park right now at El Roble
School. Two tennis courts are in disrepair and I just wonder what
the city of Gilroy’s plans are to rework this park? It’s a nice
family place and I’d love to see those courts brought up to
snuff.
Courts in disrepair
“Simple question. I’m here at El Roble Park right now at El Roble School. Two tennis courts are in disrepair and I just wonder what the city of Gilroy’s plans are to rework this park? It’s a nice family place and I’d love to see those courts brought up to snuff.”
Red Phone:
Good caller you aren’t the only one who noticed. Actually, the city is currently investigating the costs and alternatives of repairing these courts. See, the problem is it’s not as simple as just resurfacing the courts, because time has passed and tree roots have actually lifted the courts, so they will need repair beyond surfacing said Operations Manager for the city Carla Ruigh.
So exploring planning and funding options is the first step and the city is on top of it. Stay tuned for future progress.
dark out at prairie owl court
“I live on Prairie Owl Court. We have a street light on our court that has never worked right since we moved in here. It’s street light number 3657, it’s flicks on and off, mostly off and I was wondering how to go about getting that fixed?”
Red Phone:
Red Phone relayed your message to city engineer Don Dey. He called back earlier this week and said a crew had been sent out to repair the broken light.
“It was photo cell problem,” Dey said. “That is a little device on the light that turns the light off and on when it senses daylight.”
Hope you’ve enjoyed a working street light, if not, let the Red Phone know and it will once again alert the proper authorities.
let the four-way stop stay
“I understand they are going to remove the four-way stop at Third and Eigleberry. I wish they would leave it, we haven’t had an accident since it’s been there.”
“Hi this is brief but not juicy. My neighbor said she called about the temporary stop sign on Third and Eigleberry. I live on Eigleberry also and we would be very happy to have that stay there as a permanent stop sign because there has not been an accident and we used to hear a crash every couple of weeks.”
Red Phone:
Well good neighborly callers, Red Phone contacted city engineer Don Dey to inquire about the removal of the four-way stop. He said the stop was installed during the Monterey streetscape construction. Traffic had to be temporarily detoured from Monterey veering off to routes on either Third and Eigleberry, or Sixth and Eigleberry Streets. However, the city did not follow proper procedure to install the sign permanently, it was just approved for temporary installment during construction.
“If were to do that, we would have to go out and study the intersection, do an analysis, and go to council to present the information,” Dey said. “For now we have to let the intersection go back into normal operation until we can decide if a formal change needs to be taken or not.”
Dey added that it does take people awhile to adjust and get attuned to the new operation and that’s what is needed to determine if a permanent stop is needed because of the criteria that the city will have to go through to install the sign permanently.
So drivers please be cautious when driving in the area with new, working stop lights and no stop signs.
