The South County Courthouse was evacuated when a false smoke alarm went off Monday afternoon.
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and fire department authorities responded to the alarm about 3:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Rick Sung of the sheriff’s office.
Authorities determined that a smoke alarm located in an inmate holding cell went off without an apparent cause, but no fire was found and no injuries were reported, Sung said.
The courthouse was evacuated for about 15 minutes while firefighters investigated the source of the alarm, according to Sung. About 60 people, including courthouse employees, sheriff’s deputies and judges were evacuated from the building.
