Police have declined to give more information about the motorcyclist who went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night after a man driving a car cut the rider off while turning left from a right turn only lane in north Gilroy.
About 5:45 p.m. Friday, a motorcyclist – whose name and age police did not give – was headed westbound on the 700 block of First Street, which stretches from Miller Avenue to Wren Avenue, police said. A car that was in a right turn only lane then pulled out in front of the motorcyclist. Police did not say whether the motorcyclist hit the car or the car hit the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist, whose injuries police only described as life threatening, was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Police declined to say whether the motorcyclist was still in the hospital or if the rider’s condition had changed. The county coroner’s office reported that it had not received a body as a result of the accident.
The driver of the car – whose name was not given – was not injured and was released at the scene, police said. Police did not cite the driver, but the accident is still under investigation and could result in an arrest, police said.
Neither of the motorists were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, police said.
