Fiance Grieving as Well as Difficult Anniversary Date of Death Approaches
Dear Editor,
With the one-year anniversary of Sean Merriman’s passing fast approaching, I’d like to acknowledge his loss and the impact he’s made on those of us who knew him, in particular, his fiance, Maggie Moreno, who was and has been deeply impacted by this tragedy.
These past months have not been easy for her and her family who were also close to Sean. He and Maggie shared the same hopes and dreams that every couple that’s engaged do. Unfortunately they’ll never see them come to fruition. It’s heartbreaking to see my sister coping with the loss of not only her best friend but also the person she was planning to spend the rest of her life with.
The past and recent articles printed in the Dispatch, rarely if ever acknowledge his fiance, who was deeply affected by Sean’s loss. Let’s not forget that others grieve as well (perhaps in a quieter, more private manner), nevertheless, her grief is valid as is the grief of many women who’ve lost their fiances to such tragedies and who gain little acknowledgment because they were not yet legally married.
It would be both courteous and respectful to hear and read all sides of a story and give acknowledgement to not only his fiance but to all who have experienced a loss.

Closed Council Meeting on Bonfante Gardens Went Over ‘Sensitive’ Documents
Dear Editor,
After reading Mr. Mark Zappa’s letter in Thursday’s paper, I felt it was necessary to address some of his comments.
The “closed session” was used by City Council to review the financial records and condition of Gilroy Gardens. It was “closed” because we were reviewing sensitive documents that could impact ANY negotiations in the future, be it the City of Gilroy or anyone else.
At the end of the meeting, Council asked for additional information, nothing else. There was NO decision to move forward, just to get more facts to help Council better understand the situation.
The issues brought forward in Mr. Zappa’s letter can only damage an already delicate situation. Mr. Zappa, if you are a true friend and supporter of the park as you claim, hang in there until we have a good understanding of all the issues before casting judgment prematurely. I for one, want to know as much as possible before making a decision.

Wonderful Column on Iraq That Has the Right Idea on Support for Troops
Dear Editor,
I thoroughly enjoyed and concur with the recent opinion column by Cynthia Walker. I, too, have a son scheduled to deploy to Iraq soon. Why does it seem that the press always stacks the news against success in fighting terrorism in Iraq and elsewhere?
I urge you to continue with great articles like this.
