Dear Red Phone,
“I’m making a comment about the column in Friday’s edition of the Dispatch. The person complaining about Walmart shoppers not putting their carts away. There’s another way to look at this. Walmart makes an enormous profit on the backs of its employees. They don’t pay very good salaries, they don’t pay benefits. And the writer talks about helping Walmart? For every cart that’s left at random in the parking lot, that may force Walmart to hire more people to clean up. It’s their parking lot, it’s their carts. Why should we help Walmart? I think they should just get on the dime and hire some more people to clean up their property, make it presentable and make it easy for patrons to park. We shouldn’t have to go out of our way to help somebody who’s so egregiously making money off of us. Just my opinion. Thanks.”
Dear Reader,
Do the carts littering the Wal-Mart parking lot make it half full or half empty? While Red Phone appreciates a good debate, this thinking is off in Never-Never Land. Let’s apply the thought process, shall we? Dear Gilroy Unified School District students, Please make sure you throw your trash and old papers on the ground and do likewise in the bathrooms. We’ll be giving out prizes for the filthiest student in each grade because the taxpayers give us oodles of cash and we can hire more people to pick up after you (job creation) and stick the taxpayers with higher bills. Dear Joyce, we hope you didn’t impart this line of thinking to your children because individual irresponsibility is exactly what leads to this kind of behavior. Do the right thing, put the cart back, and be part of the solution.
