Dear Red Phone,
We live above the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Mantelli Drive. We heard popping noises last night at about 9 p.m. and at about 10 p.m. from what sounded like a mortar explosion. We did not hear any screaming, but we did hear a car driving away shortly after.
Dear John & Cheryl,
We forwarded your email to Gilroy Police Department Sergeant Pedro Espinoza. Firecrackers can be heard throughout residential neighborhoods this time of the year in the days following the Fourth of July holidays, which is why it wasn’ surprising to get this response:
Sgt. Espinoza: On Monday, July 21 we received three fireworks calls in that general area (west of Santa Teresa) from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. No explosions were reported to our call center.
