Five men were arrested in relation to a fight that resulted in serious injuries in downtown Gilroy, police said.
The fight occurred about midnight March 31, when Gilroy Police responded to a report of violence in the area of Monterey and Sixth streets. When officers arrived, they found three adult male victims who had suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. Officers determined the victims had been attacked by a group of suspects.
Police were able to quickly identify, locate and arrest five suspects who were trying to leave downtown Gilroy, the police department said in a press release.
Investigators from the Gilroy Police Anti-Crime Team continued to investigate and determined that the victims were assaulted and robbed by the suspects, police said. The suspects are all alleged associates of a local criminal street gang.
The suspects repeatedly hit and kicked the victims before stealing their jewelry and cash, police said. The stolen property was in the suspects’ possession when officers contacted them, and the property was returned to the victims.
Police said the five suspects—all Gilroy residents—were identified as Mathew Garcia Flores, 19; Michael Thomas Haro, 29; Josiah Xavier Lujan, 19; Adrian Anthony Navarrette, 20; and 19-year-old Jose Angel Santos III. The suspects are currently being held at the Santa Clara County Jail.
