Gilroy – Five people were arrested on suspicion of racing four cars down Hecker Pass Highway late at night last week. A witness reported seeing the cars idling next to each other at the intersection of Hecker Pass Highway and Watsonville Road. The two cars then accelerated, reaching speeds of more than 90 mph and staying close together. A sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicles on Hecker Pass Highway east of Sprig Lake. At 11:31pm Sept. 27. The deputy arrested Epimeno Madrigal, 30, and Jesus Calderon Chavez, 20, who were riding in the same car, and Yajahira Sabala, 18, Aaron Matthew Wheeler, 22, and Eduardo Corona Pedraza, 21, who drove separate cars.
Accelerate to Ramming Speed
Gilroy – Carlos Raymond Barrientes, 47, of the 7500 block of Miller Avenue, was involved in a fight at 8:50am Tuesday. When the victim left the house in the middle of the fight and got into her car, Barrientes followed the victim, got into his car and rammed into the back of her car, police said. Barrientes did not have a valid license to drive. He was arrested at the Gilroy Police Department, 7301 Hanna St., on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, driving without a license and three unrelated counts of failure to appear in court.
