MILPITAS – There always is one ingredient bread bakers seem to run short on: advice.
And with the holiday baking season approaching, King Arthur Flour plans to help solve this problem by presenting free bread baking classes in the Bay Area.
There will be two class at the Sheraton San Jose Hotel, 1801 Barber Lane, that give anyone the opportunity to learn bread-making techniques. The first class is at noon Nov. 21 and covers sweet dough. The second class, at 7 p.m. Nov. 21, covers artisan bread.
The sweet dough class covers a master recipe made by hand and bread machine. Students will learn the entire bread-making process from measuring and mixing to basic kneading and shaping.
The artisan bread class will address crusty, old-world style, rustic breads made with preferments. Students will learn the basics of yeast, working with a poolish and more.
Classes include training on the following techniques: classic shapes including an epi, six-strand braid, mock braid and more; using starters and preferments; basic and advanced skills; both traditional and bread machine methods; troubleshooting and professional tips; and a free 24-page recipe book, coupons and door prizes.
Basic bread questions like “Why didn’t my bread rise?” or “Is it OK to freeze bread dough?” will be answered during the two-hour lessons.
Lessons will be taught by King Arthur Flour’s expert bread maker, Michael Jubinsky. Everyone is welcome and no registration is required.
