• During the colder fall and winter months keep indoor plants away from window drafts and from a wave of heat coming at them from a heating vent.

• Think ahead for Christmas gifts for your gardening friends. A pot full of planted bulbs can be started now and given at Christmas.

• Spring and summer flowering perennials to plant now are Canterbury bells, candytuft, foxglove, columbine, cineraria and sweet William.
