Gary Allen Sims passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at the Palo
Alto VA Hospice Center after a long fight with thyroid cancer.
Gary Allen Sims passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at the Palo Alto VA Hospice Center after a long fight with thyroid cancer. Gary was born Nov. 21, 1939 in Long Beach and spent the first years of his life with his parents, Billy Aubrey Sims and Stella Barrett Sims in nearby Garden Grove.
He grew up and graduated from Sandpoint High School in Sandpoint, Idaho and joined the Air Force shortly after.
Gary married Connie Ruth Beat, Sept. 22, 1961 in Detroit. They moved to California and except for an 11 month stay in Wisconsin, lived in California ever since. After 31 years with Burroughs Corp, Gary came to work for Tandem computer in 1990 and remained when Compaq bought them out and later when
Hewlett Packard took over Compaq. For the last two years, because of health problems, Gary worked from his home in Morgan Hill.
In earlier years, Gary and his wife, of 41 years, loved to hike the mountains surrounding the Santa Clara Valley. He was an avid reader of spy novels and World War II stories. He and his wife loved to travel, and had made many trips abroad. His first love was computers and he never lost the desire to make his programs work better and faster. He is survived by his wife, Connie Sims, his daughter, Carrie Sims Childers and her husband, Douglass Childers, two grandchildren, Kelsey Childers and Matthew Childers, all of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., his mother, Stella Phippard, his sister Sharron Rex of Kootenai, Idaho and his brother, John Sims of Riverton, Utah. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, in California, Idaho and Oregon and his aunt Mozelle Rubottom of Lebanon, Ore. His father, Billy Sims, passed away in Morgan Hill several years ago. He was very much loved by all who knew him and respected by everyone for his dedication to his family and profession.
