Lady Rams lose to Solano, 59-44; Men fall to Napa, 64-54
GILROY – The Gavilan College women’s and men’s basketball teams both dropped hard-fought games last week. The Lady Rams suffered a 59-44 home loss to Solano on Thursday and the Rams were defeated 64-54 on the road by Napa Valley.

“The kids played really hard. (Solano) is ranked 10th in Norcal and won 20 games last year,” Lady Rams’ head coach Mike Girardi said. “We were in it. It was a real exciting game.”

Freshman guard Cynthia Pinto and sophomore swing player Sabrina Murphy led Gavilan in the scoring column as both finished with 15 points apiece. Freshman forward Jennifer Trembley added eight points and freshman guard Sabrina Morales finished with seven points.

Up next, the Lady Rams will travel to Monterey Peninsula College for a Dec. 2 road game at 5:30 p.m.

In Friday’s men’s game, the Rams were led by 12-point efforts from teammates Tim Goode and Lionel Smith. Sophomore guard Tommy Sondgroth added nine points and Jon Morrison tallied eight points.

“Probably played our worst half of the year in the first,” said second-year head coach Chris Shoemaker, whose squad trailed by 13 at the break. “Defensively, we are not doing the little things that puts us in position to win. We were more compoetitive in the second half, but missed many easy buckets.”

The Rams (0-3) will try to notch their first win against West Hills on Nov. 29 in Coalinga at 5 p.m.
