Don’t get too close to the Gavilan baseball team or you might get burned.
The red hot Rams won their fifth straight game, topping Mendocino 6-1 at home Thursday.
Edgar Arriola drove in three runs for Gavilan, two of which came in bottom of the third. He hit an two-RBI single to score Tony Amaral and Brennan Wilson, putting the Rams ahead 2-0.
Gavilan secured its win by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Mendocino’s Tanner Paris tossed a wild pitch and Sean Allen hurried home. Amaral singled on the next play to score Rex Lagman and move Wilson to third. Arriola flied out to centerfield, but Wilson still came home for the final run.

Matt Oxner (2-0) got the win on the bump, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings. He also walked one and struck out five.

Justin Tantog came in for relief in the eighth and tossed two perfect innings for Gavilan.

Medocino scored its lone run in the top of fifth as Connor Franz came home on a passed ball, cutting Gav’s lead to 2-1.
The Rams got it right back in the bottom half of the inning. An error allowed  Allen to score and Lagman to get on base.
Arriola was 1 for 4 with three RBIs. Amaral was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Allen and Wilson each had two hits in four at bats and scored two runs.
The Rams (5-1) were slated to play at Mendocino Saturday, but the game has been postponed due to inclement weather. They will be back in action at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Folsom Lake College.
