SALINAS—The Gavilan men’s basketball team won its first conference game since 2011 and snapped a five-game losing streak in the process.
The Rams used a big first half to cruise to a 78-64 win over the Panthers Friday at Hartnell.
Robbie Skinner was one of four Rams to score in double digits and led Gavilan with 18 points. Takoda Bowers notched 15, RJ Collins 14 and Albert Medrano tallied 12.
Gavilan led 48-27 at the half.
The Rams (2-12 overall, 1-1 in conference) will be back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at De Anza.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Rams edge Hartnell
Gavilan used a big second half to pick up its first conference win Friday at Hartnell.
After trailing by seven at halftime, Gavilan came back to outscore the Panters by 11 points and win 47-43.
Felicia Lee-Cardenas earned a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in addition to five steals, two assists and a block.
Katrina Diaz added 13 points and four steals, while Brittany Valdez scored nine and had seven steals, six rebounds and four assists.
Gilroy High alum Brianna Barron tallied six points and nine boards.
The Rams (6-10 overall, 1-1 in conference) will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at De Anza.
