GILROY—Samantha Nydam gave a dominant performace in Gavilan’s 3-0 sweep of De Anza College Friday at home.
Nydam led the Rams with 12 kills and served up an ace, aiding them to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 win over the Dons.
Erica Chapa knocked down three aces in addition to 26 assists against De Anza. Madison Hartman added eight kills and an ace in the game. Kaitlyn Siaz chipped in on defense with two solo blocks.
Gavilan (11-8 overall, 6-1 in conference) will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. tonight to host City College of San Francisco.

Rams fall to Las Positas, Lake Tahoe
Gavilan was dealt back-to-back losses this weekend, falling 4-1 to Las Positas Friday at home and 1-0 to Lake Tahoe on the road Saturday.
Hibsen Tamayo-Davila helped the Rams avoid the shutout against Las Positas, notching an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute.
Luis Leyva-Robles was between the pipes for Gavilan and tallied 14 saves.

Merced blasts past Gavilan
The Blue Devils held Gavilan to a field goal and went on to beat the Rams 51-3 Saturday in Merced.
Gavilan’s lone score was a 30-yard field goal by Justin Keathley-Deras early in the second quarter to cut the Blue Devils’ lead to 12-3. Merced went on to score seven more times before the game’s end.
Gavilan was held to just 161 yards of total offense to Merced’s 455. The Rams fumbled the ball five times and lost it twice.
Quarterback Luke Morin was also intercepted three times, including one for a Pick-6. With 40 seconds left in the third quarter, Nawell Rojas intercepted Morrin and took the ball 25 yards into the endzone to put Merced up 41-3 at that point.
Morin finished 10 for 23 with 90 yards and -1.4 yards on the ground. Merced tallied 12 tackles for a loss of 39 yards and sacked Morin seven times for a loss of 31 yards.
A week after seeing three running backs explode for 100-plus yards apiece, Gavilan netted just 70 total yards rushing.
Gavilan (1-6 overall, 1-3 in conference) will be back in action at 5 p.m. Saturday to host Hartnell.
