Dear Editor,
Memorial Day in Gilroy was truly memorable thanks to some benevolent local businesses.
On behalf of Exchange Club of Gilroy Board President, Dion Bracco, Charter President, Mayor Al Pinheiro, and members, we’d like to proudly and publicly thank Calpine in Gilroy, Wal-Mart in Gilroy and Gilroy Weinerschnitzl owner, Bruce Haller, for their major support of Memorial Day.
Calpine provided the grant that helped purchase the small American flags distributed to children by Gilroy Exchange Club members in the parade route. Kids were able to proudly wave these flags as the parade traveled down Tenth Street. Calpine’s grant also helped provide Easter food boxes for over 30 local families.
Wal-Mart generously provided $5,000 to support the Memorial Day Parade Committee. In addition, Wal-Mart provided a $1,000 grant for the Exchange Club food booth at Christmas Hill Park after the parade. Not only did they provide monetary support, they provided bottled water, chips and sodas for the food booth.
Weinerschnitzl owner, Bruce Haller, provided the hotdogs, buns, wrappers and napkins. Other cash contributions came from Gilroy’s Small Business of the Year, Articulate Solutions and Rickenbacker Group in Gilroy. The caring donations are remarkable. Their kindness helps make Gilroy a great place to live, volunteer and work. We deeply appreciate the generous commitment to make Gilroy’s Memorial Day a tremendous success.
More than $2,500 was raised by Exchange Club’s food booth. All funds raised in Gilroy are contributed back to Gilroy organizations. Gilroy Exchange Club meets every first and third Wednesday at noon at Mama Mia’s Ristorante. New members are welcome. For information, call me at 846-2142 or Vilma Pinheiro at 842-0200.
