Iraida Pisano came to the Gilroy Unified School District last school year to fill the assistant principal position at Gilroy High School vacated by Mary Ann Boylan, who is now principal of the T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy. As a former principal of an elementary school before coming to Gilroy, Pisano was an “excellent candidate” for the El Roble position, said Superintendent Deborah Flores.

Former El Roble Principal Leigh Schwartz, who joined the district two years ago, decided to search for a job closer to his former home in Ventura County, Flores said.

“We wish him the best of luck,” she said.

When Pisano applied to the district, the only available position was for an assistant principal at GHS, Flores said. When the El Roble position opened up, the district advertised widely and was pleased to place the top two candidates – Pisano and Janet Boehme – as principals at El Roble and Rucker Elementary School, respectively.

That leaves a spot at GHS for the district to fill. The district has already received 54 applications for the position and hopes to make an appointment soon, Flores said.
