Gilroy-based utility installation company Giacalone Electrical Services is closing its doors and laying off its staff July 16.
Lisa Burns, chief financial officer for the company, notified Gilroy City Administrator Tom Haglund about the closure in a memo sent Wednesday.
Giacalone installs pre-cast vaults and manholes, gas lines, and electrical lines among other utility work, according to its Web site. The company’s clients include PG&E, Verizon, AT&T, Charter and Comcast.
The company, which stands at 6300 Monterey Road, has operated in Gilroy for more than 20 years.
Giacalone staff members are either represented by Teamsters Local 853 or the Chauffeurs and Warehousemen of America, Burns wrote.
“This is a very unfortunate circumstance for a community business and partner such as GESI,” Haglund wrote in an e-mail to the Mayor and City Council.
