GILROY – The Gilroy Browns Jr. Midgets (11-13 year olds) became the only team left standing in the Pop Warner Peninsula Conference without a blemish on its record after a 28-8 win over last year’s champion the Almaden Mustangs.

The Browns now boast a 6-0 record with two games left in the regular season.

Running back Brandon Boyd found the end zone three times for the Browns, including a 99-yard touchdown run.

“He certainly had a good game that led to a nice victory for us,” assistant coach Joseph McMurray. “Certainly, though, football is a team sport and credit is due to our offensive line.”

Head coach Brian Boyd and the Browns square off against Salinas in Gilroy on Sunday before traveling to San Jose to face Andrew Hill the following week to wrap up the regular season.

The Browns nearly lost their perfect record three weeks ago, McMurray said.

Gilroy faced a two-touchdown deficit, according to the Pop Warner Web site, before coming all the way back to beat Santa Cruz, 28-14.
