Gilroy Dispatch is now located at 64 W. Sixth Street in downtown Gilroy.

The Dispatch has returned to downtown after a hiatus of nearly 30 years, and is now located at 64 W Sixth St, the site of a former internet cafe and next to Garlic City Auction.

The last time the newspaper was within walking distance of a decent cup of coffee and a stiff drink, it was located where the El Rio Nido nightclub on Monterey Street is now. Dispatch and Out & About staff spent weeks filling boxes with decades worth of notebooks and files in preparation for the big move that was heralded for months and finally arrived last week when, Friends-style, staff switched off the lights and closed the door at 6400 Monterey Rd. for the last time.

The new digs are bright, airy and feature a big front window for staff to easily look out at all the happenings in Gilroy’s booming downtown district. “We are a transparent organization, and now even more so,” said editor, Brad Kava. “You can look right in the window and see us working. Come by and say ‘hi.’”

Said associate publisher BobbiJo Palmer: I’m excited to be back downtown. For the past 10 years Out & About had various offices downtown and the camaraderie with the downtown business owners is what I like best! It will be so nice for the employees to be able to walk to lunch and get a good cup of coffee just around the corner.”
