You might notice something different about the Gilroy firefighters for the remainder of the month. In an effort to support women and their families impacted by breast cancer, the Gilroy Fire Department is joining a national emergency responder campaign, “Cares Enough to Wear Pink.”
Firefighters have traded in their traditional blue shirts for pink ones. The initiative, spearheaded by firefighter Steven Hayes and supported by Firefighters Local 2805 is meant to send a message of hope, strength and courage to those impacted by breast cancer.
“Our firefighters are excited to show their pink shirts to the community” said Fire Chief Alan Anderson. “They hope their participation will help raise awareness about this devastating disease and inspire women to commit to regular screenings”.
