SALINAS – The Gilroy High girls golf team’s season came to an end with Monday’s Tri-County Athletic League Finals at Salinas CC – where the Lady Mustangs finished in fifth as a team.
“It was a good end to the season. It’s real nice that all the girls will be back next year. They are hungry now,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “they know that they were close and so I hope this will motivate them to work on their games over the off season.”
Gilroy’s 443 combined was behind league champ Monte Vista Christian’s 385, Hollister’s 394, Santa Catalina’s 406 and Salinas’ 423. But the Lady Mustangs finished ahead of sixth-place Notre Dame (460), Live Oak (489), Alvarez (529), Monterey (589) and RLS (DNS).
“The conditions were blustry and cold all day at Salinas CC,” Kuwada said. “Despite that, the team put up a great performance.”
Andrea Hugo powered the Gilroy squad with a 101 score – which was within one stroke of qualifying for CCS. Finishing strong were Carissa Filice (106), Kristen Campos (111), Amy Kishimura (125), Brittney Weber (129), and Heather Peterson (154).
“Andrea had a great day, unfortunately she finished one stroke from qualifying for CCS,” Kuwada said. “Carissa played well, despite having a cold. Overall, the team played very well.”
