Gilroy is Great
CALLER 1: I want to extend a big THANK YOU to all of the Gilroy Little League board members and other volunteers that donated many hours of their time over the past 2 weeks so that we could host the District 39 Tournament of Champions here in Gilroy. Every day we needed multiple scorekeepers, multiple announcers, snack bar staff and others to successfully run the tournament, which consisted of 11 teams and 20 games over an 11-day period. Some people donated over 40 hours of their own time over the course of the tournament to make it happen.
Special thanks to Christine Drysdale, Rhonda Nelson, Cathy Martinez, Cathy Barbosa, Ruben Reyes, Jesus Martinez, Nancy Sosa, Michelle Sosa, Ed Wilson Jr., Ed Wilson Sr., Troy Swartzle, Brent Drysdale, Rou Kounanis, Rhonda Nelson, Jerry Nelson, Stelle Nelson, Lisa Fernald, Jim Pirnik, Marie Lucio, Brian Silva, Danny Bonsell, Barb Lemberger, JJ Martinez, Celeste Martinez, and Rich Gallardo.
None of these people had a son playing in the tournament, but they all came together to pull it off and allow our Gilroy representative, the Cardinals, to play at home.
The Cardinals answered by playing well enough to get to the Championship Game for the first time ever for a Gilroy Majors team in TOCs. I know the Cardinals players, coaches, and fans appreciate your efforts as well.
Special thanks to the City of Gilroy as well, since we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to host the tournament without the new Sports Complex and the City’s help getting the fields prepped.
The visitors that came to the tournament with the 10 out of town teams from San Juan all the way to Boulder Creek had high praise for Gilroy’s first class facility. Now, on to the 9 year old All Star tournament, being hosted at the Sports Complex starting Monday, July 2!

GREEN PHONE: Green Phone seconds the high praise for all the hard work put in by parents, coaches, administrators and volunteers to put on a great TOC. Most importantly, while it’s nice to come off looking good to outsiders, all of the parties involved created something that is absolutely priceless. You all gave lifelong memories to kids that play baseball simply for the love of the game. Here’s to you.
