Sandra K. Chavez, of San Martin, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at her home. Sandy is survived by her husband Martin R. R. Chavez and their son Gabriel M. Chavez.
Jeanette (Jan) Morones Morton died peacefully Friday, September 2, 2011. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved son Brett Morton on September 6, 2011. Although, the last years of her life she suffered poor health, she remained optimistic and resilient. Her spirit, kindness and faith persevered. Jan loved and nurtured her sons and grandsons completely. She will be deeply missed by her sons Benjamin and Jason Morton, grandsons Joseph and Jacob Morton, as well as her two brothers, sister and many friends.
Long time Hollister resident Bernice M. Lanini passed away at her Ridgemark Residence on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010, at the age of 93 years. Bernice was a native of Redwood City, and moved to Hollister as a child with her parents Attilio and Venuta Guerra. She was a graduate of San Benito High School. Bernice was a homemaker most of her life; a member of Sacred Heart Parish; belonged to The Swiss Club and enjoyed attending their functions in Greenfield. "Working in her garden was her number one activity", said her daughters; in addition to the time she spent with her grandchildren, helping others who need assistance, traveling throughout Europe and Alaska, baking cookies in her spare time, and attending the cooking classes at the former Dorothy McNetts's.
Frank E. (Pat) Lewis passed away at Stanford Medical Center on Friday, January 8th at the age of 85 years. Pat, as he was affectionately known, was a native of San Jose, a graduate of San Jose Schools, and a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater in WWII. Pat and his late spouse Ramona "Mona" moved to Hollister 59 years ago when he established Hollister Tire & Battery. As a resident of San Benito County he was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church; a member of and twice Exalted Ruler of Hollister lodge No. 1436 B.P.O.E.; a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 9242, Bolado and Ridgemark Golf Clubs, the SIRS and Gourmet Club, and a former member of Hollister Rotary, the I.C.F., and the Lions Club. Pat enjoyed playing Pedro with his buddies at Ridgemark as well as the challenging games on his computer. He loved to hunt, fish, attend the 49-er games beginning when they played at Kezar Stadium, the travels he had with his late wife Ramona, and family gatherings.
On Sunday, January 3, 2010, shortly after midnight, Inez Emily Pruzzo left us. She was 76 years old. Inez was born to Silvio and Eleanor Poletti in Gilroy, CA. on May 1, 1933. While growing up, she sadly lost her father at an early age and grew up in a single parent home with help from her grandfather and her aunts. As she grew, she flourished and found that she had a natural talent for singing. In high school, she was in choir and traveled to local high school competitions. When she was 18 years old, she was featured on a San Jose radio station amateur show, where she sang live over the air. She received a music scholarship, but due to family needs, was not able to go on.
Martha H. Busch was born in 1918, in San Jose, CA. and grew up on her father's dairy farm. She was queen of the Swiss Society of San Jose where she met her future husband on the dance floor. She was married to San Jose dairyman John Busch in 1943 in Reno, NV. As population pressed dairies out of San Jose, Martha and John moved to Hollister to farm. She became active in the community serving as treasurer of the North Co. School District's P. T. A. from 1966 to 1974. She served as secretary of the concert association in the 1970's and 80's. Martha loved entering flowers in the county fair and raising her two children. When her husband died in 1995 she remained on the farm until six years ago when she moved to an assisted living facility in Davis, CA. Martha was loved by all, those who have passed and those who still remember her and her brilliant smile. She leaves behind a son and daughter, John Busch of Hollister, CA. and Bonnie Moore and husband Fritz, of Vacaville, CA as well as her niece/stepdaughter Trudy Johnson of Exeter, CA.
James (Jimmy, Gus, Woody)Gustaveson passed away at home on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at age 42. Jimmy was born in Duarte, CA on December 7, 1966 to Gerald and Joanne Gustaveson of Temple City, CA. Jimmy attended St. Luke's Elementary, Bishop Amat High School, and graduated from UC Davis in 1990 with a degree in Psychology. He began working in Angels Camp as a counselor for teenagers, then moved on to Momentum for mental health patients followed by Starlight for juveniles, and continued on with Momentum in Palo Alto managing outpatient care. He is survived by his parents Joanne and Jerry Gustaveson,his wife Janina Gustaveson of 9 years, his three children Shawnie, Joey, and Maya,and his sister Jonna Dunne (Mike), and brother Jeff Gustaveson (Amber). He was a loving Uncle to Macey, Michael and D.J. Dunne, and Blake, A.J., and Samuel Gustaveson. Rosary has been held on Dec. 26 at 7:00 P.M. at Johnson's Mortuary in Morgan Hill and Funeral services were on Dec.27th at St. Catherine's at 10:00 A.M in Morgan Hill. Ed is survived by his wife of 50 years Lucille; children Denita Shupe, spouse Errol of San Juan Bautista; & Eddie Correia, spouse Lucy of Tracy; grandchildren Josh Myers of Chico; Derrol and Melissa Shupe of San Juan Bautista; brothers Jack Correia, spouse Shirley, and Charlie Correia; sisters Dolores Henson, spouse Red; Elizabeth Perry, spouse Ken, and Evelyn Jurado; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Joe & Mary Correia; brothers Joe & George Correia; sisters Mary Shelton, Elvira Ormonde, Angelina Souza, & Alice Campbell. Ed was a General Contractor with an eye for detail. He loved being around family and friends whenever he had time. He loved the outdoor sports of ATV's, snowmobiles, and motorcycles because he loved speed. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be forever missed. Ed grew up in southern CA where he met and married his wife Lucille and had two children. Then they moved to Tracy, CA where he worked for his father, and then went into business for himself. After living in Tracy about 25 years, followed by a short time in the Paso Robles area, the family moved to San Juan Bautista where they have lived the past 22 years. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday June 7th at 10:00 A.M. at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister 95023.
