Salinas – Gilroy’s girls’ varsity tennis team captured a victory on the road against North Salinas Tuesday, winning by a score of 6-1

“North Salinas was the best host school that I have been at all year,” coach Jami Reynolds said. “They were fun to play against – very good sportsmanship by the players and the coach.”

Gories Kwong captured her first singles win of the season 6-0, 6-3, taking the match “because her serves were great today,” according to Reynolds.

The No. 1 doubles pair for Gilroy, Nataile Toews and Kimberly Johnson, used a tactic of lobbing balls over its opponents heads to take away net play and win the match 7-5, 6-2.

No. 2 doubles partners Anneliese Zelina and Melanie Morelos were able to stay undefeated on the season by taking their match 6-0, 6-3 while Alissa Castro and Sidney Ebert (No. 3 pair) gave Gilroy a doubles sweep by taking the match 6-2, 6-0. It was Castro’s and Ebert’s first official varsity win.

The team’s next games will be on the road again as the Mustangs will face Salinas on Thursday.
