Seaside – Gilroy played second-place Seaside tough for two games Tuesday before the Spartans pulled away for a 25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 Tri-County Athletic League win.
“I think we could have played better,” GHS coach Sue Grogan said. “We have the ability to take another game. We all but died after Game 2. I was happy about winning Game 2. But we had a lot of mental errors the last two games.”
Kevin Bruce had 13 of the Mustangs’ 28 kills. Meer Fakhry had six kills. Mike Leininger had 16 digs. Greg Calimpong had 24 points and six service points, including two aces. Alfred Medenceles had nine service points.
Gilroy (9-20 overall, 4-7 TCAL) is again on the road Thursday at Watsonville.
The twice-beaten Mustang junior varsity maintained second place in TCAL by defeating Seaside 25-12, 25-19.
