Heat top Wave for fourth time
GILROY – In Tuesday’s fourth and final all-Gilroy summer classic, the U19 Heat completed the sweep of the U18 Wave with an 8-4 victory on the Gilroy High diamond.
Although the Wave jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, the Heat rallied back behind the bats of Jeff MacPhail, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the sixth; Sean Nori, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the fourth; and Joe Cano, who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI in the fifth.
MacPhail got the win, pitching the first four innings, and reliever Armando Franco earned the save, throwing the final three frames.
Left-handed starter Jeremy Teschera took the loss for the Wave.
The Heat scored single runs in the first, third and fifth along with a three-run fourth and a two-run sixth.
All of the Wave runs were unearned with two in the first, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.
The Heat willl play a practice game against Salinas on Thursday at Gilroy High and then head to Menlo for a Saturday doubleheader. The following day, the Heat will host a doubleheader against San Mateo at Gilroy High. Both doubleheaders have game starts of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The Wave will play Thursday and Sunday at Gavilan College and Saturday at Gilroy High.
