Ernie Els has a laugh as a trantula cruises by before he hits approach shot on the 4th hole Sunday afternoon.

Ernie Els, who last Sunday won the British Open, will return to the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club on Oct. 10-14, it was announced Wednesday.

Els spoke with tournament president Duke Butler at the RBC Canadian Open in Ancaster, Ontario on Tuesday and said “I enjoyed playing last year and look forward to seeing my friend Hasso Plattner at CordeValle.”

Plattner is the co-founder of SAP, one of Els’ sponsors.

Els hoisted the Claret Jug last Sunday at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in England for his fourth major championship victory. Els also won the 2002 Open Championship and the 1994 and 1997 U.S. Open Championships.

Last year Els contended all week in the Frys.com Open, posting rounds of 69-66-67-68 to total 270 in tie for fourth. He finished three strokes behind three champion Bryce Molder and runner-up Briny Baird.

He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. Like this year’s Honoree, Ken Venturi, he won the U.S. Open at Congressional.Venturi won in 1964.

PGA Tour members have until Oct. 5 to commit to play in the $5M tournament.
